Badrinath Pilgrimage Package

Embark on a trip to the Badrinath Temple, one of the Char Dhams of Uttarakhand, to seek blessings from Lord Badrinarayan.

The Badrinath Temple also known as the Badrinarayan Temple lies in the Badrinath town of Uttarakhand. It is one of the four dominant Char Dham pilgrimage sites of India, making the Badrinath pilgrimage tour widely popular. This pilgrimage centre draws a large number of pilgrims every year and is among the most prominent hubs of religious travel in Northern India.

Located in the Garhwal Himalayas, Badrinath is situated at an elevation of around 3,100 m. It lies on the banks of the Alaknanda River, between the Nar and Narayana Mountain ranges. People going on a Badrinath pilgrimage not only get the chance to soak in its spiritual ambience but also admire the stunning natural beauty of the surroundings.

The Badrinath Temple is believed to have been established in the 8th century by sage Adi Shankaracharya. The temple has Lord Vishnu as its presiding deity, and beautifully showcases the traditional Garhwali wooden architecture. The Badrinath Temple stays open for six months in a year. It becomes inaccessible due to heavy snowfall in the winter. To plan a trip to this temple, you can simply book a Badrinath pilgrimage package from Veena World. There are many legends associated with the Badrinath temple, which adds to the appeal of Badrinath tour.  According to one of them, Lord Vishnu visited the present-day location of the Badrinath temple in search of a tranquil spot for meditation. Immersed in the serene surroundings, he became so engrossed in his meditation that he remained unaffected by the freezing cold. To shield him from the harsh weather, his consort, Goddess Lakshmi, transformed herself into a Badri tree. Moved by her devotion, Lord Vishnu named the place Badrikashram in her honour. The site also finds mention in the Vishnu Purana. As per the ancient text, this site was often visited by Nara and Narayana, in search of a place to set up their hermitage. There are many references to Badrinath in Hindu scriptures like the Vishnu Purana, Mahabharata, and the Skanda Purana. Its rich cultural relevance makes the Badrinath trip widely popular among Hindus.

Experience the Best of Badrinath Pilgrimage

When booking a Badrinath trip package, you should see to it that your itinerary includes the following:

Badrinath Temple: The temple is dedicated to Lord Badrinarayan, a form of Lord Vishnu. This temple is open for six months every year, typically between the end of April and the start of November, owing to the extreme weather conditions relevant in the Himalayan region. Hence, you must make sure to plan your Badrinath pilgrimage at the right time. The imposing and colourful main entrance of the Badrinath temple is popularly known as Singhdwar. The temple is about 50 feet tall with a small cupola on top and is covered with a gold gilt roof. The Badrinath temple is divided into three parts, the Garbha Griha or the sanctum sanctorum, the Sabha Mandap where pilgrims assemble and the Darshan Mandap where rituals are conducted. At the Badrinath temple, Lord Vishnu is worshipped in a black stone idol sitting in a meditative pose. This idol is surrounded by idols of several other gods, like Narad, Ganesha, Garud and Narayana. The idol of Lord Badri is shifted to Yogadhyan Badri in Pandukeshwar in the winter season.

Tapt Kund: A tour package of Badrinath would not be complete without a visit to the Tapt Kund. Located just below the temple, this is a natural thermal spring which is believed to be infused with therapeutic properties. Pilgrims typically take a dip in the holy waters of the Kund before visiting the sacred shrine of Badrinath. Near the Tapt Kund, you will find five boulders which symbolize Narad, Narsingh, Varah, Garur and Markanday.

Mata Murti Mandir: Located 3 km from the Badrinath temple, on the banks of the Alaknanda River, is the Mata Murti temple. A visit to this temple is quite often a part of the Badrinath pilgrimage tour. Mata Murti temple is believed to be the mother of Nara and Narayan, who were the twin-brother avatar or incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Pilgrims especially visit the temple in the month of September to attend the Mata Murti ka Mela.

Charanpaduka: Charanpaduka is located approximately 3 kilometres uphill from Badrinath town, a journey that involves a steep terrain scattered with boulders and caves. This sacred site features a rock believed to bear the footprints of Lord Vishnu. The rock is said to be the spot where he is said to have descended to Earth from Vaikunth, his celestial abode, making it an important part of the Badrinath pilgrimage package.

Best Time to Visit Badrinath

The ideal time to plan your tour to Badrinath would be between May to June and September to October. The temple stays closed in the winter due to freezing temperatures. The exact dates for the opening of temple shrines every year are decided by Mandir Samiti. You need to check these dates prior to planning your trip. Even if you plan to go on the Badrinath Pilgrimage in the summer, you should carry light woollen clothing with you as the region stays cold throughout the year.
