Sanamahi Temple commemorates the ancient religious traditions of Sanamahism, the animistic, ancestor worshipping, shamanic (similar to Tantrism or Tantric religion) religion of Meitei people from before their ruler introduced Hindu faith in the kingdom. “Sanamahi”, (meaning “liquid gold”) is one of the most important deities. This is a popular temple for the Vaishnavite Meitei folk in Imphal, you can explore with a special Imphal tour.
