Get to know more about Leh before booking your tour packages

Leh is the capital of the newly formed Union territory of Ladakh. It is flanked by the two of the highest mountain ranges in the world - the Himalayas and Karakoram, which are easily visible when you are on your Leh tour package. In ancient times, Leh was an important pit stop on the trading routes along the Indus Valley that connected Tibet, modern-day Pakistan, India, and China.

The terrain of the town is primarily mountainous, and it has a cold desert climate. Due to climate and other environmental changes, the old town of Leh has been included in the World Monuments Fund list of 100 endangered sites to protect it from further damage. The town of Leh is surrounded by a variety of terrain which has given birth to many natural wonders that attract scores of tourists on Leh packages.

Experience Leh

Wherever you look, you would be transfixed by nature’s beauty as far as your gaze can go. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that a package holiday to Leh is once in a lifetime thing to experience. The towering snow-capped mountains make you wonder about the futility of keeping time for they seem to be here forever. At Sangam, where the Zanskar and Indus Rivers meet, you wonder if these rivers do not care about man-made boundaries and continue their merry flow. The Leh Palace makes you wonder how the workers built the place on a terrain that is quite difficult to manoeuvre. The local sightseeing in Leh is enough for you to wonder what lies beyond the town. And yes, a holiday package to Leh is full of wonders.

Leh has emerged as a must-visit place, especially for bikers who come from all over the country to experience firsthand what the legendary Leh stories are all about! In fact, people who love exploring new places on their motorcycles, Leh is probably the first destination on their bucket list. Whatever be your reason to visit this barren paradise, Veena World has the perfect Leh package for you. Although there are many local tour operators in Leh, booking a Leh trip package through Veena World ensures complete peace of mind. You can easily estimate the cost of a Leh trip by selecting only those attractions in your Leh sightseeing package that interest you.

Things to Do in Leh

Although this place is perfect to just gaze out the window for hours on end, with a bowl of steaming momos or butter tea (a speciality), there are many things to see around this picturesque town.

  • Leh Palace: We doubt you would find a more unique palace that seems to rise like the sphinx in the middle of nowhere. Built in the 17th century by King Sengge Namgyal to be used as a royal residence, the towering 9-floor edifice is visible from Leh’s main market. The location of the palace is also quite strategic as it offers an undisturbed view of the Zanskar Mountains as well as the Stok Kangri in addition to the town below. Tragedy struck in the 19th century when the Kashmiri army vandalized the palace and forced the royal family to flee. The ruins of the palace with many artefacts, paintings, and household items still tell the story of the grandeur of the age to the tourists visiting here on their Leh package.

  • Magnetic Hill: It would be a rarity for a tourist on a Leh package to miss the mystery of Magnetic Hill. It is said that the magnetic property of the hill is such that vehicles continue to move upwards without any force being applied, defying gravity. Whether it is an actual phenomenon or an optical illusion, it is a great stopover to have lots of fun. So, make sure you include this place in your Leh tour itinerary.

  • Spituk Gompa: Built in the 14th century, this striking Gompa overlooks the Indus Valley. It is a spiral stairway that takes you to the three-tiered shrine called Latho. Gonkhang (protector chapel) is supposed to be the protector of the guardian deities of the monastery. While designing your Leh sightseeing package, make sure you include this place.

  • Sangam: No Leh tour package is complete without this place. How would you like to see two mighty rivers, so starkly different from each other, converge at a stunning location before going their separate ways? The Zanskar and Indus rivers meet here, amid the cold desert. The Indus Valley Civilization, given birth by the Indus River, is regarded as one of the most advanced in human history. While the Indus River can be seen as shiny blue, the Zanskar River is dirty green and the meeting point looks quite remarkable due to the colours, and it leaves you spellbound on a travel package to Leh.

  • Leh Old Town: Being a major highlight of most Leh travel packages, a visit to the old town of Leh lets you discover the simple lives of these simple mountain people. The maze of narrow lanes is part of the allure. The house is built in such a way to withstand the extreme climate of the region. Most of the houses are brick houses and some are a few centuries old but are surprisingly well-maintained.

  • Hemis Monastery: Hemis monastery is situated in Hemis village and is spread over a huge area. This is where the famous Hemis festival takes place in June-July (make a note of the dates beforehand if you are keen). The complex also has a museum that encapsulates the life and times of the people in the region through the ages. While looking for Leh travel packages, check out for this place as well.

Best time to visit Leh

The best time to plan a Leh trip package is the summer season (April – June) when the temperatures are quite pleasant to explore the beauty of a Leh holiday package. The winters are harsh here and the highways get affected by occasional landslides. Do take into consideration your preferences for Leh local sightseeing places and Leh trip cost while checking out Veena World’s Leh holiday packages to get an experience of a lifetime.!!!!
