Experience The Best Of Imphal

If you are planning an Imphal tour, you must make sure that your itinerary includes the following places:

Loktak Lake

This is the largest freshwater lake in the Northeast India. Loktak Lake often resembles a miniature inland sea. It is popular for floating islands called phumdis, along with its scenic beauty and cultural richness. Phumdis are organic masses composed of soil, vegetation and decaying matter. These phumdis or floating islands at the Loktak Lake are even big enough to support houses and shops.

Keibul Lamjao National Park

Representing an extraordinary tale of natural antiquity and beauty, this is the only floating national park on the planet. An important part of Imphal tourism package, Keibul Lamjao National Park lies on a 'phumdi' or a floating landmass, and is a part of the Loktak Lake. Here you will find the endangered brow-antlered deer of Manipur, better known as Sangai. You may also catch otter, hog deer and a variety of waterfowl at this National Park. Many migrating birds can also be found here usually from November to March.

Indian National Army Museum

A visit to the Indian National Army or INA Museum is an important part of tourism in Imphal. It is the only official museum dedicated to the Second World War in Manipur. This museum showcases WWII relics found in the fields of Manipur, like soldiers' helmets, bombshells, bullets and more. The INA Museum also displays several photos of Netaji, Japanese amulets, Netaji’s letters, INA badges, old currency notes and more.

Kangla Fort

Kangla Fort is a testament to the rich history and wealthy past of Manipur. As per historical evidence, this fort has been a prominent site since 33 AD, as it served as the royal seat of power for the kings of Manipur's Kangleipak kingdom. Kangla Fort was constructed with well-burned bricks. Inside the fort, you will find crumbling ruins of ancient palaces and temples, and get the chance to walk through historic corridors and broad courtyards. A visit to this fort is usually a major highlight of Imphal city tourism.

Ima Bazaar

Ima Bazaar or Ima Keithel is a more than 500-year-old daily market that is entirely run and managed by almost five thousand women vendors. It is among the largest markets in the world that’s all-women run. Here you can shop for rugs, fabrics, terra cotta pottery, authentic handicrafts and more. You can also find several Manipuri delicacies at the shops of Ima Bazaar.
