All You Need to Know About the Singapore Zoo Night Safari

10 mins. read

As the sun sets in Singapore, some gates close while others rise, transporting you into a world where nocturnal entities come out to play. And by entities, we mean the shy creatures who only come out when dusk falls.

Situated in Mandia, the Night Safari is one of the most famous places in Singapore to visit, drawing thousands of visitors every year. As the world’s first nocturnal zoo, the safari houses over 2500 animals from approximately 130 different species, making it a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

So, if you are a nature lover or just someone who wants to explore wildlife in its truest form, don’t forget to add the enchanting and thrilling Night Safari to your Singapore tour package.

To help you get the most out of your visit, here is a short travel guide to the Singapore Night Safari:

About Singapore Zoo Night Safari

The Singapore Zoo Night Safari is a unique, world-first wildlife experience that allows visitors to explore the nocturnal world of animals in their natural habitat after dark. Spread over 86 acres, the Night Safari houses various animals like Asian elephants, Malayan tigers, Indian rhinoceroses, pangolins, and African buffalo.

Rather than an extension of the Singapore Zoo, the Night Safari is actually a separate zoo, which is bigger in size and contains a wider range of animals. Since its opening in May 1994, it has earned global recognition within the zoo community and has become a major icon of Singaporean tourism, drawing over 1.1 million visitors annually.

The Night Safari takes great pride in its role in wildlife conservation. Of the over 130 animal species residing within the park, 38 per cent are classified as threatened, making it a must-visit place for anyone travelling to Singapore.

Tips for Visiting Night Safari Singapore

Here are some helpful tips for making the most of your Singapore Night Safari experience:

  1. The tram rides run at 7:15 PM, 8:15 PM, 9:15 PM, and 10:15 PM, with the earlier times being the busiest. To avoid crowds, consider exploring the walking trails first, such as the Leopard Trail or Fishing Cat Trail. Once you're done, you can hop on a tram ride later to enjoy the park with fewer people.
  2. The Creature of the Night Show takes place at 7:30 PM, 8:30 PM, 9:30 PM, and 10:30 PM. The earlier shows tend to be crowded, so if you want a more relaxed experience, try attending one of the later shows when there are fewer tourists.
  3. Make sure to bring your own insect repellent to stay comfortable while exploring.
  4. Due to Singapore's humid climate, wearing light clothing will help you stay cool throughout your visit.
  5. Try visiting the Night Safari on weekdays as weekends are usually more crowded.
  6. Plan your tour in advance to avoid standing in queues.

As we conclude our exploration of the Midnight Safari in Singapore, it's clear that the place offers a unique and unforgettable experience. Witnessing nocturnal animals in their natural habitats is a truly awe-inspiring adventure.
