The History and the Transformation of Arambol

For a long, Arambol was a quiet fishing village, habitated by fishermen and traders. The serene and untouched beauty never remains unnoticed for long. It was in the 1960s that the gorgeous village having a splendid beachside rose to fame with the arrival of hippies. In the 70s, the entire Goa, including Arambol, was engulfed in the strong wave of hippies and free-spirited travellers from India and across the world. They explored the other parts of Goa, found their base, and birthed their culture. Their free spirit continues to define Arambol today. Unlike other parts of Goa, Arambol offers a slower pace, perfect for those seeking relaxation and self-discovery. This slower pace also led to the establishment of many yoga and wellness centers in Arambol.

Away from the lavish hotels and fast-paced nightlife, even today, the slow living of Arambol will make you feel connected to yourself, which is unlike any other place in Goa.

A Day at Arambol Beach

Evenings at Arambol Beach

For a place that has its vibe and culture built by happy (read: hippie) folks, evenings bring the true essence of Arambol. It begins with the iconic Drum Circle, where people express themselves through dance and music. As the sun dips, the free-spirited souls gather to form a large circle and play drums. Anyone can join in with their instrument, adding their unique voice to the collective rhythm. The joyous symphony celebrates the end of another beautiful day at Arambol Beach, Goa.

At this time, a small flea market is set up. You can stroll and buy handmade crafts and souvenirs from locals and foreigners. As the sun dips below the horizon, you can witness a display of human expressions. The jubilant people can be seen performing Yoga, practising Hula Hoop, juggling balls, and fireplay as the night creeps in. It makes the place look very alive and happening.

Late Nights at Arambol Beach

As darkness takes over, the sweet sound of tides roars. Activities take a back seat. The pulsating music from the shacks fades slightly. This peaceful ambience soothes your body and mind. Take a romantic stroll hand-in-hand with your loved one, join one of many guitar jamming sessions, or get wasted; moonlit nights of Arambol Beach offer a magical time that lingers for long.

Mornings and Afternoons at Arambol Beach

The morning brings a breath of fresh air. People can be seen jogging and taking up yoga workshops. As the noon approaches, footfall rises. It is the best time to experience water sports. Take a banana boat ride that playfully dumps you in the ocean, or hop on a speed boat and take a wild trip on the water. You can also enjoy some aerial views of beaches and waterways through parasailing or paragliding.

Stuff Only a Few Know About Arambol Beach

Experiencing a new place gets enhanced when you know some hidden, breathtaking sights others don’t! Arambol is still a place to be explored largely. Here are a few lesser-known places to visit in Arambol.

Sweet Water Lake

This is a hidden gem just beyond Arambol Beach - the Sweet Water Lake. Escape the salty ocean for a dip in the freshwater lagoon. Also, locals believe the white sand here possesses skin-healing properties. This water lake in Kavcha, a beach near Arambol, is also surrounded by lush greenery and can be an extremely relaxing place for sunbathing sessions you’re your partner. Among the top places to visit in Goa for couples, Sweet Water Lake near Arambol Beach may top the list of many!

The Baba at the Banyan Tree Hideout

India's rich history has stories of mystics and spiritual seekers. For those seeking a unique encounter, a 25-minute trek from the end of Arambol Beach leads you to the Banyan Tree Hideout. Here, perched atop a hill and nestled within the ancient branches of a banyan tree, resides a baba, a holy man who has renounced worldly possessions.  Legend has it that The Beatles themselves once meditated under this very tree, seeking solace and inspiration. Witnessing such a surreal sight is an experience that will stay with you long after you leave Arambol.

Jungle Party

Arambol's vibrant spirit takes on a different form on some nights. The jungle surrounding the beach booms with the pulsating rhythms of trance and electronic music. For those in the know, a hidden world awaits - a jungle party that extends Arambol's free-spirited legacy deep into the night. With the right connections, you can be a part of this gala, dancing under the starlit sky until the first rays of dawn peek through the trees.
