Located off the southeastern coast of Africa, Mauritius is a small island country in the Indian Ocean. Primarily known for its pristine white sand beaches, this tropical destination is immensely popular among tourists. With pleasant weather and plenty of sunshine throughout the year, Mauritius is an excellent choice for those who seek a relaxing and rejuvenating vacation. Beyond beaches, Mauritius is also known for its expansive mountain ranges, lush green forests, and scenic waterfalls. In addition to this, Mauritius also offers a diverse cultural mix, which is reflected in its cuisine, festivals, architecture, and everything else. All these things, together, make this island country a popular holiday destination.

Like any other country in the world, Mauritius also requires international travellers to hold a valid travel visa. However, the country has a visa-free regime for Indian tourists, under which they do not require a visa for a period of up to 90 days. During this duration, you can explore the country and go from one place to another. Beyond this free-stay period, one must obtain a Mauritius visa. For people coming from India, Mauritius offers a visa-on-arrival that is valid for 60 days.

Types of Tourist Visas for Mauritius

Tourist Visa:

A tourist visa, as the name suggests, is an official document issued by the Mauritian government that allows a tourist to enter the country and indulge in sightseeing and other activities. This is ideal for individuals planning a leisurely trip to Mauritius. To obtain a Mauritius tourist visa for Indian citizens, there are certain document requirements. One must have a passport, which is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in Mauritius. Other than this, you should also have a return ticket along with a detailed trip itinerary and sufficient funds to cover your stay there.

Transit Visa:

Usually, this visa is for layovers and short stops. Since Mauritius is visa-free for Indian citizens, you can transit without applying for a transit visa. However, other nationals need to apply for a transit visa that allows them to stay there for up to 24 hours.

Visa Costs

Indian citizens can obtain a Mauritius tourist visa free of cost for an initial six months. Once those six months are over, you will have to pay a fee based on the type of visa you choose.
