Best Time to Visit Tawang

The best time to visit Tawang is from March to June and from September to October, which covers the spring, early summer, and autumn seasons. If you will visit from March to June the temperature will be pleasant ranging from 10°C to 25°C, making it ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing. Sela Pass

One of the most stunning mountain passes in the world, it serves as a vital link for the people of Arunachal Pradesh, connecting the Tawang district to the rest of the country. The structure is 40 feet tall and has Buddhist architectural elements, including prayer wheels, colourful snakes, and flags.  The war memorial features deities of Lord Buddha, adding to the sanctity of the place. Adorned with the national flag and regimental flags, the memorial is a significant highlight of Tawang, India, tourism, drawing visitors to honour the bravery and sacrifice of the soldiers.

Taktsang Gompa

Perched on a cliffside, Taktsang Gompa is a significant Tibetan Buddhist sacred site. Dense forests and towering mountains surround the monastery, 45 kilometres from Tawang township. Three tiers of the monastery honour a Tibetan guru or deity. From Gompa, people can also trek to nearby pilgrimage sites like Guru Padmasambhava’s meditation cave. How To Reach Tawang

There are multiple ways to reach Tawang, India including by air, train, and road.

By Air

The nearest airport is Tezpur Airport (Salonibari), Assam, approximately 317 km from Tawang. The alternative airport is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati (approx. 480 km).

By Train

The nearest railway station is Tezpur Railway Station (approx. 315 km) but with limited train options. The better option is Guwahati Railway Station (approx. 485 km) which is well-connected to major Indian cities.

By Road

Tawang is accessible via scenic routes from Tezpur (317 km) or Guwahati (485 km), with shared taxis, private cabs, or buses passing through Bhalukpong, Bomdila, and Sela Pass.
