Ziro valley music festival is one of the most popular music festivals in the country. It’s a celebration of art, music and life that brings together musicians from all over the world. The Ziro Music Festival was started in 2012 by Bobby Hano and Anup Kutty and since then, it has gone from strength to strength, delivering spectacular audio-visual performances by independent artists in India.

The Ziro festival is organized by the Apatani tribe who handles all the necessary arrangements. In fact, such is the craze that music lovers from all over the country camp outside the venue for four days. The festival is famous for its energetic performances and hordes of enthusiastic fans that come from different parts of the country to get a glimpse of their favourite artists. The lists of musicians who have played at the festival include famous artists like Lee Ranaldo, Steve Shelley, and Louw Majaw, among others.

List of official permits required to enter Arunachal Pradesh

While heading to the Ziro Festival, you will need to acquire certain permits before you can enter Arunachal Pradesh: -

  • Indian citizens who are not residents of Arunachal Pradesh need an inner line permit to enter the state. If you are planning to visit Arunachal Pradesh for the festival then you can apply for the permit online.
  • Apart from the inner line permit, you also need to acquire a Protected Area Permit to enter Arunachal Pradesh. You can get the permit from All Indian Missions abroad or the All Foreigners Regional Registration Officers (FRRO) in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.

The Ziro valley festival takes place in the town named Ziro located in the Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. Travellers can book a flight to Guwahati and then board a train from the Naharlagun railway station to Ziro.

By Road

Travellers can get a taxi from Guwahati to Ziro. It will take somewhere around 6-7 hours to reach Ziro if you are travelling by taxi.

Ziro is known for its soothing climate and picturesque landscape. The town is home to the Apatani tribe that spends most of their time working in the rice fields. Paddy cultivation

The residents of Ziro village mostly work in paddy fields. Apart from growing different varieties of rice, they also breed a particular type of fish for selling and consumption. The people of Ziro are farmers who work hard to earn their daily wages.

Dolo Mando

Visitors can also spend their time trekking during the 4-day music festival. The trek to the top of the nearby hillock offers a surreal view of the surrounding villages. It is a nice place to set up camp and spend some quality time with your friends.

Kile Pakho

The hilly point offers a spectacular view of the whole town of Ziro with paddy fields on one hand and the snow-covered mountains on the other. It is a perfect place to enjoy the beautiful view of the entire plateau.

Talley Valley Wildlife Sanctuary

The Talley valley is home to the endangered clouded leopards. The wildlife sanctuary showcases a variety of flora and fauna including silver fir trees, ferns, orchids, bamboo and rhododendron. The valley is a perfect place to bond with nature and do some soul searching.
