In the chaos of how the planet is falling and dying, we overshadow the ones who are busy saving it. While most news about deforestation, global warming and animal extinction are busy scaring the readers… there are so many people rather being busy saving our planet! Well, now that I have mentioned saving the planet, remember so many of us as kids were so obsessed with the idea of saving the world? It is ironic how sooner we have forgotten about it. Although, there are some who are working their own way out through the idea of saving the planet! This post is all about them. And, who knows, maybe you will find your idea of saving the planet too?
1. The 20 Years Challenge!
Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado and his wife Lélia Deluiz Wanick Salgado started an initiative of bringing life back to the deforested areas. The couple’s institute successfully recovered 1,502 acres of land in Minas Gerais alone. Private Natural Heritage Reserve (PNHR) awarded the couple’s farm for its restoration. They spread awareness of the need to reforestation too. This 20 years challenge of restoring the forest gained the attention of Leonardo Di Caprio too.
2. Bringing Life Back!
The dying corals' stroke fears in many travellers. Next generation would never be able to see the corals was something the world assumed. It all changed when researcher David Vaughan began to grow corals that grew 40 times faster than in the wild. It normally takes 25 to 75 years for corals to reach sexual maturity. Scientists along with conservationists plan to plant these corals all around the world.
3. Finally, A Way To Kill Plastic
In 2016 the first bacterium was observed to be naturally evolved to eat plastic at a waste dump in Japan. Since then scientists were working on the bug and its detailed structure of the crucial enzyme. Prof John McGeehan is leading the research and had stated that the enzymes break the plastic in few days. The same breaking takes centuries in the ocean. The team is sure that the process can speed up a little more. They’re looking forward to making the enzyme break the plastic to its original components so that it can be recycled again. More work and research is under process to create ways to optimise the enzyme and its uses.
4. 184 Years Later They Are Back Home!
An intensive park restoration project brought back land iguanas in this region of the Galapagos Islands after 200 years. Ecologists successfully managed to transfer 1,436 iguanas to its natural habitat. The park authorities will be monitoring their nesting and feeding habits to protect them and keep them safe.
5. One Person Cannot Change The World…

Jadav Payeng recorded his name in the history as ‘Forest Man of India,’ when he single-handedly planted a 1,360-acre forest. The 16-year-old kid who started planting trees after a realisation of reptiles and snakes are dying because of deforestation. Payeng took 30 years to build the forest that it is now. Also, recently, the IAS Officer of Indore won over the internet for clearing 13 lakh tons of garbage from 100 acres land in 6 months. The impressive achievement didn’t take time to go viral. It just made us think what we can do if he could do all that in just 6 months!
6. Money is up to save the change!
The funding given to fight climate change is doubled. It got increased to 200 billion dollars. The World Bank President Jim Yong Kim said, “We are pushing ourselves to do more and go faster on climate and we call on the global community to do the same. This is about putting countries and communities in charge of building a safer, more climate-resilient future.”
7. 15 Animal species that were saved from extinction
Gray Wolf, Bald Eagle, Gray Whale, Sea Lion, White Rhinoceros, Brown Pelican, Peregrine Falcon, Siberian Tiger, Aleutian Canada Goose, Galapagos Giant Tortoise, Mountain Gorilla, American Alligator, Flying Squirrel, Grizzly Bear and California Condor. Due to steps of conservationists, environmentalists, activists and various institutions and zoos, this was made possible.
8. Awareness leading to Actions
More and more awareness is spreading across the world. Students and activists around the globe are stepping in protests. Influencers are creating content to raise awareness. All of it is resulting in an urgency of taking actions. The solutions are thereby looked into and implemented sooner.

If You Can Reinvent AC, Richard Branson Will Give You 3 Million Dollars!
Air Conditioning systems emit extremely high units of carbon emissions. More and more people buying ACs are increasing the impact of carbon emissions in the world. There is a need to reinvent AC and however impossible it may seem now, Sir Richard Branson sees it as a challenge. Moreover, he sees hope that brilliant minds will come up with solutions like solar power and other innovations that marked the history of the era!
While everything seems so out of control and we seem to be running out of the way, some of us think there’s no use just excepting it as a harsh truth. Some decide to not give up and take that extra mile to find ways to act on it. These some people sometimes are left nameless & yet impact the whole world in a way. Just like the idea of superheroes. It is true that if you take a good look at the past, in many ways that humans destroyed the balance.
Yet, we created an age where everything that was a dream back then, is possible now. Some focus on the first and some decide to use the later in finding ways to help in fixing. And, the most interesting part is the new ways they come up with to do so. Every now and then, the news of how bad we are doing in the scale of saving environment will keep popping up. Although what we choose to focus and choose to act on will make the difference!
