Diwali - The festival of happiness

4 mins. read

In the heart of autumn, as the days grow shorter and the leaves put on their vibrant, fiery costumes, there comes a festival that lights up our souls like a thousand stars in the night sky. Diwali, the festival of lights, holds a special place in the hearts of millions around the world. As the scent of fresh marigold flowers and the sweet aroma of cardamom-infused sweets fills the air, you know that the festival is about to come and light up your lives.

I have some amazing and fond memories of Diwali. Decorating the house was a cherished tradition. My family and I would spend hours cleaning and decorating our home with colourful rangoli designs, “Akash Kandil (Diwali Lantern)” and fairy lights. The entire house would come alive with a warm, welcoming glow, and the sense of anticipation for the festival ahead would build. I vividly remember my father hanging colourful lanterns outside our house, and the sight of them glowing against the dark night sky was nothing short of magical. Diwali also meant a time for dressing up in our finest attire. I remember my mother carefully selecting traditional outfits for all of us, and the excitement of wearing new clothes would make me the happiest. The Diwali Faraal (snacks) was a genuine delight. The delicious Chakli, Shankarpali, Kadboli, Chivda, Anarse, Besan Laddoo.. the list is endless. I could never get tired of eating those delicacies. The heart of Diwali, undoubtedly, is the time spent with the family. The scent of incense sticks, the festive lights, and the warmth of family sitting together and having the time of their lives everything made Diwali truly unforgettable.

As we sat together, sharing stories, laughter, and delicious food, I realised that Diwali was not just a festival of lights, but a festival of togetherness and shared happiness.

And as I grew older, my understanding of Diwali deepened. It is not just about the external celebrations and rituals but also about the inner transformation it signifies. The festival prompts us to let go of our egos, share our joys and sorrows, and appreciate the simple yet beautiful aspects of life. It's a time to be grateful for the love and support of our family and friends and to acknowledge the abundance of blessings in our lives.

Nowadays, the Diwali celebration is no longer limited to our homes. The joy is spread all over the world by the people who love to travel. As you travel around the world, you never forget to celebrate this festival and that makes it even more special. Different parts of India and the world experience the magic of the Festival of Lights.

Diwali also brings people of different faiths and backgrounds together. Especially in a diverse country like India, the festival transcends religious and cultural boundaries. It's a time when people of all backgrounds come together to celebrate the victory of good over evil, of light over darkness. The spirit of unity and togetherness that Diwali fosters is truly heartwarming. But what makes Diwali special is not just the memories of the past, but the hope it carries for the future. It's a reminder that, no matter how dark the times may seem, light will always prevail. It's a celebration of hope, of the belief that better days are ahead, and that love and goodness will ultimately triumph.

As I look forward to another Diwali, I am filled with a sense of joy and gratitude. The festival has grown with me, transforming from a time of excitement and wonder to a profound celebration of life, love, and light. The memories of Diwali are not just moments in the past; they are a reminder of the values and traditions that shape our lives. Happy Diwali!
