As summer approaches, so does the need to take a break and travel. Since our childhood, summer has had a special connection with travel. After all, who can forget the days when we used to eagerly wait for the exams to get over so that we could travel to a certain place and have fun. But these days we all seem to be caught up with work and are trying our best to maintain that work-life balance. So, to help you plan the holiday of your dreams, we bring you a list of the 10 places you need to visit this summer in India.

1. Kashmir

Starting with a destination that is adored by every traveller. Kashmir is beautiful. Kashmir is serene. And it is no exaggeration when one calls it the literal heaven on earth. With places like Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonmarg and a climate that makes your summer feel pleasant, it is only natural for people to travel here. To add to the experience, do not forget to enjoy the local food and kahwa. Also, do not miss an opportunity to click a picture in the traditional Kashmiri costume. You will remember this holiday for a lifetime.

2. Himachal Pradesh

Another favourite destination is the state of Himachal Pradesh. It is the land of several scenic places such as Manali, Shimla, Kullu Valley, Rohtang Pass, Atal Tunnel, Spiti Valley, Kasol, Dharamshala and Dalhousie. With its stunning scenic beauty and adventure activity opportunities, Himachal Pradesh never fails to mesmerize us. One of the best experiences you can have in Himachal is interacting with the local people and listening to their stories. Those stories, those people and the place stays with you forever.

3. Ladakh

The land of high passes is also the land of immaculate beauty. The rugged landscapes, the ever-changing terrain, gravel roads, mesmerizing places such as Shanti Stupa, Future Buddha, Hemis Monastery, serene lakes of Pangong and Tsomoriri make you fall in Ladakh completely. To add to this wonderful experience is Kargil – A place that is a testament to India’s strength and great sacrifices. The respect you have for India increases ten-fold when you visit the War Museum. You are sure to return as a changed person.

4. Uttarakhand

When you think of Uttarakhand, the first thing that comes to your mind is the mountains and lakes that are present there. Places like Mussoorie, Nainital, Lansdowne, Kausani are a visual treat. The adventure at Jim Corbett National Park and Rishikesh is unparalleled. And to add to this, there are places of faith like Kedarnath and Badrinath. They don’t lie when they say that there is something for everyone in Uttarakhand.

5. Sikkim

Also referred to as the gateway to North-East India, Sikkim is indeed a beautiful destination. It has everything you would expect in a perfect hill station. It is also fondly referred to as the elder brother of the seven sisters (states) of North-East India. You can find glaciers and views of the Kanchenjunga peak, the alpine meadows and a huge variety of wildflowers. The climate is perfect for an ideal summer trip.

6. Meghalaya

Up next is one of the most beautiful states in India and the ‘Abode of Clouds’ – Meghalaya. It is also known as the ‘Scotland of East’. Situated in the North-Eastern part of India and surrounded by Garo, Khasi, Jaintia hills, Meghalaya has attractions such as Living Root Bridges, several stunning lakes, waterfalls and more. People generally know Meghalaya because of Cherrapunjee, since it is known as the place which receives the highest rainfall in the world. But there is so much more to see here!

7. Assam

Home to the precious one-horned rhinoceros, Kamakhya and Umananda Temples, the mighty Brahmaputra, Assam is a must-visit place. It is also particularly well-known for the rich wildlife, several archaeological sites and of course the wonderful weather. Assam was also once a part of the iconic Silk Route. Hence you can also find good quality silk here. And whilst you’re there, do try the delicious food. You will not be disappointed.

8. Arunachal Pradesh

One of the most unexplored yet one of the most surreal places in India is Arunachal Pradesh. This state has some of the most apt climate conditions throughout the year. Nestled between the mountains, located at a good height from sea level, having mesmerizing natural beauty and having wonderful monasteries are some of the best parts of Arunachal Pradesh. Make sure you visit this place at least once to understand how truly blessed India is.

 9. Maharashtra

Maharashtra has some of the best sightseeing places in India. Although it doesn’t snow here, but the presence of the mighty Sahyadri mountains makes the state experience a blissful climate. With destinations like Malshej Ghat, Mahabaleshwar, Lonavala, Igatpuri, Nashik, Konkan, Tadoba National Park and more, you can have an absolute time of your lives even in the summers. While some parts of Maharashtra are very hot during the summers, the remaining few areas are relatively pleasant.

10. Karnataka

Though it may seem a little unconventional, Karnataka is actually a good place to visit in the summers. Especially Coorg, Kabini, Bandipur National Park, Gokarna, Maravanthe Beach and more. Karnataka is blessed with pristine hills, serene beaches, rocky ravines, and fascinating coffee plantations. With so much to do in just one state, this state is an ideal destination to make that summer road trip.
